Grease or charcoal?
Aluminum grease filters trap grease from cooking and can be washed and reused. Charcoal (carbon) filters are used in non-ducted hoods that recirculate air back into the kitchen; they absorb odours, cannot be washed and need replacing. Many non-ducted hoods use both.

How often to clean or replace
Wash aluminum grease filters about once a month, or more often with frequent frying. Replace charcoal filters about every 6 months, sooner if odours start to linger. Always check the part number or measure the old filter, as similar sizes are not always interchangeable.
