Air cleaner filter guide: sizes, types and care ▾
Match by part number or exact size
Many air cleaner filters are made to fractional sizes, such as 12-1/2 x 20 x 5/16 inch pre-filters, so a near match will not fit. Use the part number where there is one (for example Enerzone HC12246 or Fresh-Aire UV TUV-RFM-4-1620). Honeywell pre-filter titles list the air cleaner models they fit, such as F50F, F58F, F300A and F300E.
Types of air cleaner filters
- Pre-filters: mesh screens that catch larger particles before the air reaches the cell or main filter.
- Post-filters and charcoal filters: fitted after the cell, for example Honeywell post-filters and the Trion 222838-102 charcoal filter.
- HEPA cores and prefilters: for Enerzone HEPA air cleaners.
- UV reactive media: Fresh-Aire UV TUV-RFM MERV 11 media with Goldshield antimicrobial, in 4-inch depths.
- Charged media pads: ECOairflow pads, including custom nominal and exact sizes.
Care and replacement
Metal mesh pre-filters can usually be washed and reused; media pads, HEPA and carbon filters are replaced. Follow the cleaning and replacement schedule in your air cleaner's manual.
