Dryer vent guide: ducts, hoods and cleaning ▾
Connecting the dryer
A transition duct runs from the back of the dryer to the wall. Choose ProFlex flexible duct, a semi-rigid connector kit or the all-metal hook-up kit, and keep the run as short and straight as you can. Space Saver aluminum ducts (90° inlet with straight or 90° outlet) let the dryer sit closer to the wall. Follow your dryer manual for the duct type and maximum length it allows.
Choosing an exterior hood
Match the hood to the duct size (3", 4", 5" or 6") and your siding colour. ProGard and ProClean pest guard models help keep birds and rodents out, louvered hoods close when the dryer is off, and the J-channel flange and soffit vents suit vinyl siding and roof overhangs. Intake hoods and caps bring air in for HRVs or make-up air.
Keep it clean
Lint builds up in dryer vents over time and restricts airflow. Clean the lint screen after every load and use a ProClean lint removal kit or drill-powered duct brush to clean the duct periodically.
