Dyson filter guide: pre-motor and post-motor filters by model ▾
Find your Dyson model
The model name (such as DC25 or V8) is printed on the machine, usually on a label near the bin or on the back. Canister models such as the DC19, DC20, DC21, DC23, DC32, DC37 and DC39 have their own pre-motor filters.
Pre-motor and post-motor filters
Many Dyson vacuums use two filters: a pre-motor filter that protects the motor from fine dust, and a post-motor or exhaust filter, often HEPA, that cleans the air leaving the machine. Filters on this page for upright and stick models:
| Dyson model | Pre-motor filter | Post-motor / exhaust filter |

Washing your filter
Only wash a filter that is marked washable. Rinse it in cold water without detergent and let it dry completely, usually at least 24 hours, before refitting it; a damp filter can damage the motor or grow mould. Replace other filters when they look clogged or suction drops.
