What size is the Aprilaire 401 filter?
Aprilaire lists the 401 filter's nominal size as 16 x 25 x 6 inches and its actual dimensions as 17 x 28 x 7.47 inches. It is a bonded glass fibre media filter for 6-inch cabinets, so order it by the part number 401 or by your air purifier model rather than by a tape-measure reading.
What is the difference between the Aprilaire 401 and 410 filters?
The Aprilaire 401 is a 6-inch MERV 10 filter for the Aprilaire 2400 and Space-Gard 2400 air purifiers, while the Aprilaire 410 is a 4-inch MERV 11 filter for models 1410, 1610, 2410, 2416, 3410 and 4400. A 2400 cabinet only takes the 410 or 413 after the Aprilaire 1413 upgrade kit is installed, so check your model first.
Can the Aprilaire 401 be upgraded to a MERV 13 filter?
Yes. Aprilaire's U1413 upgrade kit replaces the MERV 10 Aprilaire 401 filter and inner housing in 2140 and 2400 air purifiers with a 3F413 MERV 13 TriPure filter, frame supports, frame bases and a door liner. After that, you buy the MERV 13 filter instead of the 401. PureFilters carries the Aprilaire U1413 upgrade kit.
Which air purifiers does the Aprilaire 401 filter fit?
Aprilaire makes the 401 filter for the Aprilaire 2400 whole-house air purifier and the Space-Gard 2400. If your cabinet has already been converted with an Aprilaire 1413 or U1413 upgrade kit, it no longer uses the 401 and takes the upgraded filter instead. Check the model number on your air purifier cabinet before ordering.
How often should I replace the Aprilaire 401 filter?
Aprilaire rates the 401 filter for 12 to 24 months and says to replace it after 12 months if your furnace fan runs constantly, but in most homes we recommend replacing it every 3 to 4 months, and sooner with pets, renovation dust or heavy heating and cooling use.
