GeneralAire 4541 FAQs
Is the GeneralAire 4541 the same as the 6FM1625?
Yes. GeneralAire 4541 is the catalogue (GFI) number for the 6FM1625, a MERV 11 media cartridge for 16 x 25 GeneralAire MAC air cleaners. GeneralAire lists both numbers together on its MAC spec sheet and parts reference, so an old filter marked either 4541 or 6FM1625 takes this same replacement.
Which air cleaners does the GeneralAire 4541 fit?
The GeneralAire 4541 (6FM1625) fits the GeneralAire MAC 1400 air cleaner, according to GeneralAire's MAC spec sheet, and GeneralAire also lists it for the MAC 2400G and 2400P. Check the model label on your cabinet before ordering; the larger MAC 2000, MAC-L and Perfect Platform take the 20 x 25 x 5 GeneralAire 4551 instead.
What are the actual dimensions of the GeneralAire 4541?
The GeneralAire 4541 is sold as 16 x 25 x 5, and General Filters lists the actual size of this 6FM1625 cartridge as 16 x 24-1/4 x 4-15/16 inches. Because the true depth is just under 5 inches, order it by the part number 4541 or 6FM1625, or by your MAC air cleaner model, rather than by a tape-measure reading.
What is the difference between the GeneralAire 4541 and 4547?
The GeneralAire 4541 and 4547 are both 16 x 25 x 5 cartridges listed on GeneralAire's MAC air cleaner spec sheet; the difference is filtration. The 4541 is the standard MERV 11 filter and the 4547 is MERV 13, so it captures more fine particles. Choose the 4547 only if you want the higher rating for your MAC 1400.
What is the difference between the GeneralAire 4541 and 4366?
The GeneralAire 4541 and 4366 are both MERV 11 and sold as 16 x 25 x 5, but they fit different cabinets. The 4541 (6FM1625) fits GeneralAire MAC 1400 air cleaners, while the 4366 (11-GA100A29) replaces the Honeywell FC100A1029 for Honeywell-style media air cleaners. Match the part number on your old filter before ordering.
How often should I replace the GeneralAire 4541?
GeneralAire's MAC installation manual says the 4541 media cartridge normally needs replacing every 4 to 6 months, at the end of each heating or cooling season, but in most homes we recommend replacing it every 3 to 4 months, and sooner with pets, renovation dust or heavy heating and cooling use.
