Lennox X8789 FAQs
Which Lennox PureAir unit does the X8789 filter fit?
The Lennox X8789 (Lennox model 100908-08) is the MERV 16 replacement filter for the Healthy Climate PureAir PCO16-28 air purification system, rated for 1,600 CFM. The other first-generation PureAir cabinets take different filters: the PCO14-23 uses the X8790 and the PCO20-28 uses the X8788, so check the model number on your PureAir cabinet before ordering.
What are the actual dimensions of the Lennox X8789?
The Lennox X8789 is sold as 16 x 26 x 5, but Lennox lists its actual size as 16-3/8 x 25-1/2 x 4-3/8 inches. Like most 5-inch media filters it is less than 5 inches deep, so order by the part number on your old filter or your PCO16-28 cabinet rather than by a tape-measure reading.
How often should I replace the Lennox X8789?
Lennox recommends replacing the X8789 filter once a year, together with the PCO16-28's metal insert and UVA lamps, but in most homes we recommend replacing it every 3 to 4 months, and sooner with pets, renovation dust or heavy heating and cooling use. Lennox also advises more frequent changes where dust or dirt loads are high.
What is the difference between the Lennox X8789 and Y6605?
The Lennox X8789 and Y6605 are both MERV 16 filters with the same 16-3/8 x 25-1/2 x 4-3/8 inch actual size and 1,600 CFM rating, but Lennox lists them for different PureAir generations. The X8789 is for the original PCO16-28, while the Y6605 is the Carbon Clean 16 filter for the newer PCO3-16-16. Order the one Lennox lists for your cabinet.
What is the difference between the Lennox X8789 and the X8796 kit?
The Lennox X8789 is the PCO16-28 filter on its own, while the X8796 is the PCO16-28 annual maintenance kit containing one X8789 filter, one X8792 titanium dioxide metal insert and two X8794 UVA lamps. Lennox says the filter, insert and lamps should all be replaced every year, so the kit covers a full annual service.
