HEPA filter guide: finding the right replacement ▾
Start with your model number
Most HEPA filters here are made for specific equipment, so the model number matters more than the word HEPA. For vacuums, check the label under the machine or the part number on your old filter, such as Dyson DY262 for V7 and V8 sticks or the Johnny Vac FXV101 for XV10 canisters. For air purifiers and HVAC systems, use the model of the unit, such as the Amaircare 2500 or 3000 or the Lennox HEPA-40 and HEPA-60.
Filters, bags and pre-filters
Vacuums can use a HEPA exhaust filter, a HEPA bag or both. Some systems also use a pre-filter or carbon filter ahead of the HEPA element, such as the GeneralAire 4646 pre-filter or the Greentek pre-filter and carbon kit for the HS 3.0. Replace each part that your manual lists.
When to replace
Replacement intervals vary by machine and use, so follow the manufacturer's schedule. Some filters are washable, like the Dyson washable post filters; only wash a filter if its instructions say so, and let it dry fully before refitting.
