Honeywell humidifier guide: bypass, fan or steam ▾
Bypass, fan-powered or steam
Bypass humidifiers use the furnace blower to move air through a water pad and need a bypass duct. Fan-powered models such as the TrueEASE Advanced 18 gallons/day unit have their own fan, so they do not need a bypass duct. The Advanced Electrode humidifier makes steam, so it can add moisture even when the furnace is not heating.
Capacity and controls
Capacities here run from 11 to 22 gallons/day. Larger or leakier homes need more output; ask an HVAC technician to size the unit. Basic models use a manual humidistat, while Advanced models have a digital humidistat.
Installation and upkeep
These units connect to ductwork, a water line, a drain and wiring, so have a licensed HVAC technician install them and follow Honeywell's instructions. Replace the pad or steam cylinder as the manual directs.
