HRV or ERV?
Both exchange stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air and recover heat on the way. An ERV also moves some moisture between the air streams, which helps where winter air is very dry or summers are humid. An HRV is a common choice in cold climates where homes hold more moisture in winter.
Core, ports and defrost
- Core: square or hex core. The core shape also decides the filter: Lifebreath 65-160 is for square core models, 65-161 and 65-195 for hex core models.
- Ports: 4" to 7", on the top or side. Match them to your ductwork.
- Defrost: damper defrost or fan defrost.
- Extras: ECM motors, auto balancing, FID fault indicator and mirrored (-M) METRO 120 ERV models are listed separately.
Sizing and installation
Choose the airflow (cfm) your home needs based on its size and local building code. Have a qualified HVAC or ventilation contractor install and balance the unit.
