MRCOOL Central Splits
MRCOOL central split equipment: Universal Series and VersaPro heat pump condensers, Pro Direct units, multi-positional air handlers, evaporator coils, a ceiling cassette, a packaged heat pump and Signature and Versa Series gas furnaces. Match each component by BTU or tonnage, refrigerant (R454B or R410A) and voltage.

Match the system
A central split pairs an outdoor condenser with an indoor air handler, or with an evaporator coil on top of a furnace. Choose components from the same series and capacity: for example, a VersaPro 36K BTU condenser with a VersaPro 36K BTU air handler, or a Universal Series 2-3 ton condenser with the 2-3 ton air handler. Check that the refrigerant matches, since newer 2nd Generation and VersaPro units use R454B while Pro Direct and the evaporator coils listed use R410A.
Sizing and cabinets
Capacity is listed in BTU or tons (12,000 BTU is about one ton). Size the system with a heat loss and gain calculation for your home rather than by the old unit alone. Furnaces and coils come in 14.5", 17.5" and 21" cabinets, so check that the coil width matches the furnace.
Installation
These systems involve refrigerant lines, gas and 230V wiring. Have a licensed HVAC technician size, install and commission the system, and follow MRCOOL's installation instructions and local codes.
