DIY, Advantage or Olympus?
MRCOOL DIY systems are designed for homeowner installation: the line sets are pre-charged and connect without refrigerant charging. 5th Generation complete systems (DIY-09 to DIY-36, R-454B) include the condenser and wall-mount air handler; some 4th Generation air handlers are listed with a 25 ft DIYPro cable. Advantage Series and Olympus condensers and air handlers are sold separately and are normally installed by a licensed HVAC technician, who connects, evacuates and checks the refrigerant lines.
Size and zones
Single-zone systems run from 9K to 36K BTU. To condition several rooms from one outdoor unit, the DIY 4th Generation 2-zone 18K and 3-zone 27K condensers connect to several DIY indoor air handlers; check the listing for the indoor units each one supports. Size each zone to the room it serves; the manufacturer's sizing guide or a technician can help for large or poorly insulated spaces.
Voltage and matching
Several 9K and 12K models run on 115V, while larger units are 208-230V. Keep the condenser and air handlers within the same series, generation and voltage, and have electrical connections made to local code.
