Finding the right refill
Taylor reagent bottles carry an R-number, such as R-0004 (phenol red) or R-0009 (sulfuric acid). Match the number and the bottle size to your kit: 3/4 oz bottles are the usual refill for smaller residential kits, while 2 oz, 16 oz and 32 oz sizes suit larger kits or frequent testing.
What each reagent tests
- DPD reagents and FAS-DPD titrating reagent: free and total chlorine or bromine.
- Phenol red: pH.
- Total alkalinity indicator and sulfuric acid: total alkalinity.
- Calcium buffer, calcium indicator and hardness reagent: calcium hardness.
- Cyanuric acid reagent: stabilizer level.
- Silver nitrate: salt level.
- Thiosulfate: neutralizes chlorine in the sample so it does not skew the pH reading.
Keep results accurate
Reagents lose accuracy with age and heat. Keep bottles capped and away from sunlight, check the date on the bottle, and replace old reagents at the start of each season.
