Match BTU to the room
Each title lists a cooling capacity and the room size it is rated for, such as 8,000 BTU for 350 sq. ft, 12,000 BTU for 550 sq. ft or 18,000 BTU for 1,000 sq. ft. Sunny rooms, high ceilings or kitchens may need the next size up. Heat/cool models, like the Perfect Aire 12,000 BTU with 11,000 BTU electric heat, add heating for shoulder seasons.
Pick the right window style
Standard units suit windows that slide up and down. Slider/casement models are tall and narrow, for windows that slide sideways or crank open. U-shaped units sit in a channel so the window closes into the middle of the unit. Measure your window opening and compare it with the minimum and maximum window size in the product details before ordering.
115V or 230V
Most units here are 115V and plug into a standard household outlet. Larger models, such as the 23,200 and 25,000 BTU units and the 18,000 BTU unit with electric heater, are 230V (check the voltage in each title) and need a matching receptacle on a suitable circuit; have a licensed electrician check or add it. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, and secure the unit properly in the window. Clean the air filter regularly as the manual describes.
