Bathroom Fans
Bathroom exhaust fans from Pro-Spec, Reversomatic, Panasonic, PennBarry, Broan and Continental Fan, from compact 40 CFM fans to high-capacity models over 400 CFM. Choose fans with lights, motion and moisture sensors, or selectable-speed DC motors. Size the fan by CFM for your room, then check the housing and duct size.
Our most popular brands are Pro-Spec and Reversomatic. Vent kits are in dryer venting & ducting, and exterior hoods in air vent covers.
Bathroom fan guide: CFM, features and installation ▾
How much CFM do you need?
A common guideline is at least 1 CFM per square foot of floor area for bathrooms up to about 100 sq. ft., so a 70 sq. ft. bathroom needs about 70 CFM. Larger rooms, high ceilings, long duct runs and separate shower or toilet enclosures call for more. Popular choices include the Pro-Spec BPT12-02A (50 CFM), BPT12-14A1 (70 CFM) and BPT15-24A1 (110 CFM), and Reversomatic fans from 40 to 200 CFM.
Features to compare
- Selectable speed: many Panasonic DC fans switch between 50, 80 and 110 CFM.
- Sensors: Panasonic WhisperSense models add motion and moisture sensors; WhisperValue offers a condensation sensor.
- Lights: combination fan and light units from Panasonic and Continental Fan.
- Sound: Broan lists a sones rating; a lower number means a quieter fan.
Installation
For a replacement, measure the existing housing and duct diameter so the new fan fits the opening. Always vent to the outdoors, not into the attic. Wiring should be done by a licensed electrician where required, following local code.
