Central Splits
Ducted central split equipment from MRCOOL: Universal Series DC inverter and VersaPro heat pump condensers, multi-positional air handlers, Pro Direct condensers and air handlers from 1.5 to 5 tons, evaporator coils, a packaged heat pump and 80% and 96% AFUE gas furnaces. Build a matched system
A split system pairs an outdoor condenser with an indoor air handler, or with an evaporator coil on a furnace. Choose both from the same series: for example a VersaPro 36K condenser (MVP-36-HP-C-230A00-O) with the VersaPro 36K air handler, or a Universal Series 2-3 ton condenser with the matching 2-3 ton air handler. One ton of capacity equals 12,000 BTU, so 24K is 2 tons and 60K is 5 tons.
Heat pump, cooling only or furnace
Heat pump condensers heat and cool; the Universal Series is also offered as a cooling-only condenser. Gas furnaces come in 80% AFUE and 96% AFUE versions with 17.5 or 21 inch cabinets, and the evaporator coils are listed by cabinet width and BTU so they can sit on a matching furnace. The packaged heat pump puts the whole system in one outdoor cabinet.
Sizing and installation
Central equipment should be sized from a heat-loss and heat-gain calculation for your home, not only by floor area. Refrigerant, gas, venting and electrical work must be done by a licensed HVAC technician and electrician to local code.
