Which air cleaner does the Aprilaire 501 filter fit?
The Aprilaire 501 is the replacement filter for the Aprilaire Model 5000 whole-house electronic air purifier, the model Aprilaire lists it for. Each new Model 5000 ships with one 501 filter and six 4270 pleat spacers. Check that the label on your cabinet says Model 5000 before ordering.
Is the Aprilaire 501 a MERV 10 or MERV 15 filter?
The Aprilaire 501 is a MERV 10 filter, but Aprilaire says it performs equivalent to MERV 15 when used properly in the Model 5000 electronic air cleaner and tested to the AHRI 680 standard. In that system, Aprilaire reports it captures 89% of particles from 0.3 to 1.0 micron and 98% from 3.0 to 10.0 microns.
What size is the Aprilaire 501 filter?
Aprilaire lists the 501 filter's nominal size as 16 x 25 x 6 inches and its actual dimensions as 17 x 28 x 7.47 inches. It is a bonded glass fibre media filter made for the Model 5000 cabinet, so order it by the part number 501 rather than by a tape-measure reading.
How often should I replace the Aprilaire 501 filter?
Aprilaire says the Model 5000 needs maintenance once a year to replace the 501 filter and wipe off the internal components, but in most homes we recommend replacing it every 3 to 4 months, and sooner with pets, renovation dust or heavy heating and cooling use.
