Sump, effluent or utility?
Sump pumps such as the 6-CIA and 6EC-CIA sit in a basement sump pit and pump out groundwater. Effluent pumps (6EC-CIM, 10EC-CIM) handle grey water and light effluent. Water Wizard utility pumps (5-MSP, 5-ASP) and the Pony Pump transfer pump suit draining tanks, window wells or flooded areas. Sewage needs a sewage-rated pump.
Choosing a size
Compare horsepower (1/6 HP to 1/2 HP) and flow (GPM or GPH) with how much water your pit collects and how high the water must be lifted. Check cord length (10' to 25') so the pump reaches its outlet. The plug-in sump and utility models listed run on 115V.
Battery backup and installation
The SPBS-10HF keeps pumping on a 12V battery if the power fails or the main pump stops; the SPBS-10HF-6 pairs it with a 1/3 HP primary pump. Follow Little Giant's instructions, and have a licensed plumber or electrician handle new discharge piping, check valves or circuits.
