Which type of pump?
- Sump pumps sit in the basement sump pit and remove groundwater, such as the 6-CIA, 6EC-CIA-RF and Red Lion RL-SC50T cast iron pump.
- Effluent pumps (6EC-CIM, 10EC-CIM) handle light effluent and grey water.
- Utility and transfer pumps (5-MSP, 5-ASP, Pony Pump 360, Milwaukee M18) drain flooded areas, window wells or tanks, and are not meant to stay installed in a sump pit.
- Battery backup pumps (SPBS-10HF) run on a 12V battery if the power goes out or the main pump fails. The SPBS-10HF-6 pairs a 1/3 HP primary pump with a 12V backup.
Sizing and replacing
When replacing a pump, match or exceed the horsepower and flow of the old one and check that it fits your pit and discharge pipe. Test the pump every few months by filling the pit with water and checking that it starts and stops. Follow Little Giant's instructions, plug the pump into a properly grounded outlet, and use a licensed plumber or electrician for new discharge lines, check valves or wiring.
