Find your model or part number
Each title names the vacuum brand and models it fits, and usually a part number. For example, XB1605295 is the Bissell pre-motor filter for models 1546, 1547 and 1654, and BA390 is a 3-pack of paper bags for Nutone, Broan and Electron SC190, SC300 and SC600 central vacuums. The model is usually on a label on the vacuum body, and the part number is often printed on the old bag or filter.
Which filter do you need?
Vacuums can have more than one filter: a pre-motor or intake filter that protects the motor, an exhaust or HEPA filter that cleans the air leaving the vacuum, and on bagless models a dust cup or cartridge filter. Central vacuums use bags, foam filters or exhaust filters depending on the power unit. Replace the one that matches your part, and clean washable filters only as your manual describes, letting them dry fully before refitting.
Bags: type and pack size
Bags come as paper, micro-lined paper, multi-ply Dustlock, HEPA and reusable cloth. Many listings are multi-packs or full cases, so check the pack count in the title. Change a vacuum bag when it is about two-thirds to three-quarters full, or sooner if suction drops.
