Vacuum filter guide: find the right filter for your model ▾
Start with the vacuum model number
The model number is on a label on the vacuum body, usually on the bottom or back. Search this collection for that model (for example Bissell 1546, Hoover UH70120 or Dyson V8). Many listings name every model they fit, along with a filter part number such as XB1605295 or XH440010993. If you have the old filter, its part number or style (for example Dirt Devil F114) is the quickest match.
Know which filter you are replacing
- Pre-motor or intake filter: sits before the motor and protects it from fine dust. Often foam or felt.
- Post-motor or exhaust filter: cleans the air leaving the vacuum. Many are HEPA filters.
- Dust cup filter: fits inside or on the bin of bagless vacuums.
- Central vacuum filter: fits the power unit of a central vacuum system, such as Broan-NuTone, Electrolux or Hoover central units.
Some vacuums use more than one, so check which one you need. For Dyson, we carry replacement filters for Dyson models including the DC25, V6, V7, V8, V10 and V11.
Washable or replaceable
Only wash a filter if it is marked washable. Rinse it in cold water without detergent and let it dry completely, usually at least 24 hours, before putting it back. A damp filter can damage the motor or grow mould. Replace non-washable filters when they look clogged or suction drops.
